Additional Benefits through a New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Claim

Additional Benefits through a New Jersey Workers' Compensation ClaimWhen you suffer a work-related injury in New Jersey, one of the potential benefits includes disability payments to cover your lost income. If you are unable to work for at least seven days, you can qualify for up to 70% of your gross weekly wage before the accident. Those payments will likely start within a week or two of the approval of your claim.

There are other benefits as well, though. Here are some that you may not know are available.

  • Medical expenses—If your workers’ compensation claim is approved, you can expect either payment or reimbursement for all reasonable and necessary medical care. Typically, though you must obtain authorization for specific treatment, other than emergency care.
  • Vocational rehabilitation—If you are unable to return to your old job because of the nature or severity of your injury, you can seek assistance in getting training for or finding suitable employment elsewhere.
  • Mileage reimbursement—You can seek reimbursement of the costs of traveling to and from any medical appointments.
  • Death benefits—The New Jersey workers’ compensation program also provides for a death benefit to be paid to a spouse, children or other dependents. The death benefit is a weekly payment, paid at the same rate as if the worker had been permanently totally disabled.
  • Funeral and burial expenses—The surviving family of a worker who is killed in a job-related accident can recover up to $3,500 to defray the costs of funeral and burial expenses.
